Om het internationale karakter van Wageningen als Stad der Bevrijding ook inhoudelijk te verbinden met het thema ‘Vrijheid: Jij maakt het verschil!’ wordt in samenwerking met Stichting Vrijheidscolleges en de Roosevelt Foundation een internationaal vrijheidscollege georganiseerd.

In de middag van 14 april worden in Middelburg de Four Freedoms Awards uitgereikt aan: de Filipijnse journaliste Maria Ressa, Prof. dr. Azza Karam namens Religions for Peace International, Sander de Kramer en burgemeester van Palermo, Leoluca Orlando. Zij zetten zich allemaal op een uitzonderlijke manier in voor vrijheid en de rechten van de mens.

Maria Ressa, geeft op dinsdag 14 april om 21.00 een uniek Internationaal Vrijheidscollege op de Wageningen University. De avond zal worden begeleid door de presentator van Nieuwsuur; Eelco Bosch van Rosenthal. Nabeelah Shabbir, Brits Pakistaanse journalist bij de Correspondent, zal in Wageningen een toevoeging geven als vrijheidsspreker. Voertaal Engels.

Over Maria Ressa
De Filipijnse journalist Maria Ressa (1963) is met haar strijd voor geëngageerde journalistiek één van de meest gelauwerde – én vervolgde – journalisten van de Filipijnen. TIME riep haar uit tot een van de honderd invloedrijkste mensen van 2019. ‘Zo’n 90 procent van mijn tijd ben ik bezig met de processen die tegen ons zijn aangespannen.’ Ze vertelt tijdens de Four Freedoms Tour over haar werk en leven in de Filipijnen en het belang van persvrijheid.

To connect the international character of Wageningen as the City of Liberation with the theme "Freedom: You make the difference!", An international freedom college is being organized in collaboration with the Vrijheidscolleges and the Roosevelt Foundation.

In the afternoon of April 14, the Four Freedoms Awards are presented in Middelburg to: the Filipino journalist Maria Ressa, Prof. dr. Dr. Azza Karam on behalf of Religions for Peace International, Sander de Kramer and mayor of Palermo, Leoluca Orlando. They are all committed to freedom and human rights in an exceptional way.

Maria Ressa will give an international Freedom College on April 14 at Wageningen University. She is the winner of a Four Freedom Award for Freedom of Expression. 

The evening will be accompanied by presenter of Eelco Bosch from Rosenthal. Nabeelah Shabbir, British Pakistani journalist with the Correspondent, will give a lectire on freedom of speech in Wageningen. Language of instruction English.

About Maria Ressa

The Filipino journalist Maria Ressa (1963) is one of the most acclaimed - and persecuted - journalists of the Philippines with her struggle for committed journalism. TIME proclaimed her to be one of the hundred most influential people in 2019. "About 90 percent of my time I am busy with the processes that have been brought against us." She tells about her work and life in the Four Freedoms Tour during the Four Freedoms Tour Philippines and the importance of freedom of the press.
