WHAT INFLUENCE DOES A CITY HAVE ON DESIGN?
The city: it's a place with many personas. From a thriving metropolis with rhythm and order, buzzing with people, culture and inspiration, to a giant tangle of chaos, teeming with crowds, concrete and distractions, there's no doubt that the cities we live in are living, breathing characters that influence their citizens, denizens and visitors alike. And that influence can inform, change and elevate design.
For this evening filled with exploration of the relationship between creators and the cities that describe them, creative collective Workwhile has brought in three designers to share how they've tapped into the city's pulse and made it work: Karin Schwandt, creative director of Schwandt Information Design and Workwhile founding member; fashion photographer Stefan Marcel Gerard; and Nina van der Weiden, owner of Kapsones Amsterdam and author of How to Avoid the Other Tourists. With these design minds, some drinks, snacks and a chance to connect with some cool creatives, you've got yourself a great start to the week.
