“In Bekoji, running is a way of life.”

Town of Runners is a feature documentary about young runners from Bekoji - an Ethiopian highland town which has produced some of the world's greatest distance athletes. The movie follows two young girls and their rural life over the period of three years as they try to escape their reality by their attempt to become professional runners in order to get closer to the modern world.

All proceeds from the movie screening go directly to the Tesfa Foundation. 

"Tesfa means hope in Amharic."

The Tesfa Foundation first started their work in Ethiopian primary education in 2004. Three years later, their main focus fell on the long-distance athletes of Addis Abeba. Over the course of more than ten years, the foundation has executed a variety of programs to support young people with the opportunity of education and vocational training. Through their great efforts in the country, the Tesfa Foundation has successfully become a powerful medium for reaching young athletes. Through previous efforts, the foundation has successfully provided an opportunity for teens to live in a safe and secure environment, while also receiving an education and support for their desire to run.
