    Description

    The Social Poetry Story
Social media and poetry may seem like odd partners, but they have a lot in common: short, emotion-filled spaces where anyone can express themselves.
My journey with poetry on social media began in 2009 when I started publishing a poem a day on Facebook. This turned into a book, a CD, performances and, eventually, a Patreon page with international Patrons.
This 45-minute performance tells the story of that journey. Punctuated with readings, songs and anecdotes, the show traces my steps from that first poem until today. It is a story that isn’t finished, that the audience is a part of. Open to questions at any stage, each show twists and turns according to the audience’s demands.
This is a story that traces its way from Johannesburg to London and Amsterdam… online and offline, with music, poetry and stories combining with a hugely interactive format that sets the audience free to participate.
It includes poems from 2009 as well as 2019, and everything in between.
About the Poet:I began writing poetry in 1980 and have never really stopped. In 1999 I won the Ernst Van Heerden Creative writing prize from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. This was followed in 2001, 2002 and 2003 by the Urban series of short fiction which I edited and contributed to. Then in 2009 I Ge’Ko publishing brought out my first solo collection of short fiction, A Body Remembered. This was followed in 2010 by a music industry business book called: ONE TWO ONE TWO. Finally, in 2012 I published For Your Or Someone Like You, my debut poetry collection. I have been publishing on Patreon since 2018 and I perform in Amsterdam on a regular basis.
