What is this course about?
During this 3-week online course, you will focus on creating your own personal totem drawing. Every lesson is a chapter where you will zoom in on one part, eventually combining it into a bigger piece. With guidance from Mirjam Manusama, you will explore how to manifest yourself through existing symbols, textures, and tones.
A totem can serve as a guide or representation of a being, family, or a social unit. Totems can feature many different designs. Within this course, we will focus on developing an artwork on your own interpretation.
Mirjam Manusama is a fashion designer and visual artist. She is expressing herself and her personal experiences through an intuitive, creative process. Her self-awareness, eye for details, and understanding of symbolism is combined into this unique course, designed to help you find inspiration from within.
Through various exercises, tools and techniques, you will learn how to create your own totem piece. We will work with fine liner, ink, and blackwork as a fundamental starting point of your drawing. With a range of geometric shapes, natural elements, lines, and dotting techniques, you will start to embark on your own unique process.

How is the course organized?
The course is divided into three chapters covering a span of three weeks. Each week we will have a two hour live drawing class containing various steps and techniques to help you create your own totem piece. You are free to develop your drawing independently and reflect for the next week. In these lessons you will also get a one on one session with Mirjam.
Chapter 1. Introduction
In this class, we will use various tools and exercises to discover your creativity and the story you want to tell. Mirjam will help you tune into your inner world as you start to curate your story.
Chapter 2. Integrating the “I, The power of your imagination, symbolism, and techniques
Through sacred geometry, you will find ways to connect symbols to what you want to express. Discover what speaks to you and start to create a visual narration and how to integrate the ‘’you’’ into your work.
Chapter 3 The totem
Finally, we will combine everything from the previous lessons and merge this into your piece. Here we will focus on the overall composition and explore ways you can combine your elements harmoniously. What connects these, and how do we create balance in your totem drawing?
