In happy cooperation with Resident Advisor, we’re hosting several free talks at EYE during our Dekmantel Festival Opening Day. We've invited many beloved artists from our festival to dig deeper within the music culture we are also fond of. All talks will serve as an important part of our Openings Day consisting of Opening Concerts, a Club Night and a Documentary taking place later on that day.
EXCHANGE 1: SURGEON
Techno stalwart Surgeon has been making quality moves over the last couple of years. With his new album ‘From Farthest Known Objects’ out this year, he has been following an interesting path ever since. Aaron Coultate checks in with where he’s at in 2016.
EXCHANGE 2: MARCELLUS PITTMAN
Marcellus Pittman has long been one of Detroit's quiet stars. He's a member of the Three Chairs group alongside Theo Parrish, Rick Wilhite and Moodymann, and he's also worked with Omar-S and Parrish's Rotating Assembly, in addition to running his own Unirhythm label. We trace his journey so far in this live RA Exchange with Stephen Titmus.

Deep-digging labels are taking the reissue market to new levels, shining the spotlight on hugely talented artists who were under-appreciated in their time—from Eri Ohno to Gigi Masin. What's fueling this interest? And how is it impacting on festivals and clubs? This panel, moderated by Aaron Coultate, takes in the viewpoints of DJs, record store owners and label bosses.
DOCUMENTARY: INDUSTRIAL SOUNDTRACK FOR THE URBAN DECAY
Industrial Soundtrack For The Urban Decay traces the origins of Industrial music, taking you on a journey through the crumbling industrial cities of Europe to America's thriving avant-garde scene. The documentary features master minds like Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire, and will be screened at EYE during our Opening Day.
