Photographer Joe Lam will share his photo exposition QUEERS OF HONG KONG at Pakhuis de Zwijger as part of CinemAsia Film Festival and Roze Filmdagen. The exposition will open with a panel session 'Queers of Hong Kong & Amsterdam' in collaboration with Chinese Radio and TV (CRTV) as part of the series China Creates.
Photo Exhibition: Queers of Hong Kong
QUEERS OF HONG KONG is a series of portraits of the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Queer) community in Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, Queer is the umbrella term for the LGBTQ community. With his exposition Lam wants to reveal the diversity within the Queer community in Hong Kong. Every portrait is accompanied by a deeply personal story.
Opening & Panel: Queers of Hong Kong & Amsterdam
The Photo Exposition will kick off with a panel about the social and cultural position of the LGBTQ community in Hong Kong and Amsterdam and the (current) state of representation of Asian LGBTQ’s in Chinese and Dutch Media.

Panel Session
Joe Lam is the publisher of Dim Sum Magazine, Hong Kong’s first gay magazine, as well as festival director of the Hong Kong Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.
Werner Borkes is festival director of the Roze Filmdagen, the LGBTQ filmfestival of Amsterdam.
Lei Ma is Editor-in-Chief of Helan Online website and project manager of Dutch media organization RNW Media (Wereldomroep). Lei is an active LGBTQ rights activist. He serves as a columnists for two Chinese LGBTQ magazines ‘GaySpot’ and ‘JackIn’. Helan Online website has produced hundreds of articles related to LGBTQ rights all over the world and has become the official partner of many Chinese LGBTQ NGOs such as PFLAG China, Blued etc. Lei currently resides in Amsterdam with his partner.
William Yang is a Sydney based artist who was born in1943 in North Queensland. Frequently exploring issues of cultural and sexual identity. William Yang is largely known as a photographer and integrates this practice with writing, performance and film. Yang has exhibited since the late 1970s.
About Cinemasia
The Queer & Asian programme has been a long and successful tradition of the CinemAsia Film Festival. This makes CinemAsia one of the few platforms for Asian LGBTQ communities. CinemAsia Film Festival works to create awareness about homosexuality in all its manifestations for non-LGBTQ’ers with an Asian background.
