Bohemian Betyars
'Met gemak een van de meest bizarre en aanstekelijke bands van Europa. Met invloeden van Manu Chao en Gogol Bordello tot System of a Down, begrijp je dat folk en rock elkaar ontmoeten in Bohemian Betyars. Of eigenlijk: dat speedfolk en freakpunk elkaar ontmoeten. De bandnaam is afgeleid van de Hongaarse woorden Bohém (vrolijke mensen met een onconventionele levensstijl) en Betyár (18e eeuwse vogelvrije bandieten die later volkshelden werden). Anno 2016 is het een zeer geroutineerde Hongaarse feestband die elk publiek in beweging krijgt met punk, ska, Balkan- en zigeunermuziek'.
Op volle snelheid en met niet aflatende passie speelt de Hongaars band Bohemian Betyars hun speedfolkfreakpunk van zich af. De band speelde de afgelopen jaren al op vele van de grootste festivals in Oost en West Europa en baant zich nu een weg naar de Benelux.
Bohemian Betyars zijn in 2009 ontstaan na een lange nacht met wijn en brandende ‘pálházi pálinka’, toen de zanger en de gitarist besloten samen muziek te gaan maken. Na een zoektocht langs pleinen en cafés in hun thuisstad Miskolc in het oosten van Hongarije vonden ze een violist, trompettist, bassist en een drummer en was de zesmans speedfolk-/freakpunkband geboren. Een lange reeks shows in binnen- en buitenland op uiteenlopende podia staan inmiddels op het cv.
De tour in april is in het kader van de release van hun nieuwe album.
