In 2008 viel de Amerikaanse zakenbank Lehman Brothers om. De bankencrisis die hierop volgde, deed de wereldeconomie op haar grondvesten trillen en resulteerde in de diepste recessie sinds de Grote Depressie. Ook Nederland werd hard geraakt door de crisis. Verschillende banken werden gered met tientallen miljarden aan staatssteun, de huizenmarkt ging door een diep dal en de werkloosheid liep snel op.
Inmiddels zijn we tien jaar verder en kunnen we reflecteren op de economische en maatschappelijke consequenties van de crisis. Welke sporen heeft de crisis nagelaten in onze samenleving? Welke groepen zijn het hardst geraakt door de crisis? En hoe waarschijnlijk is een nieuwe crisis van dezelfde omvang? We gaan hierover in gesprek met Oscar Gelderblom, hoogleraar financiële geschiedenis aan de Universiteit Utrecht.
