DETROIT 9000 @ 14:30
Presented by Jeff McGivney
After a masked heist at a Detroit political gala, the racially-divided city demands to know: were the thieves black or white? A gruff white cop (Alex Rocco) and a by-the-book black detective (Hari Rhodes) are assigned to crack the case. Meanwhile, an assortment of politicians, prostitutes, gangsters, doctors and madames chase each other through the city streets in swank muscle cars and flashy 70s fashions to find out who is ultimately responsible. This blaxploitation classic is a loving, funky tribute to the Motor City, and a key influence on Quentin Tarantino. See it in a rare 16mm screening!
Directed by Arthur Marks, 1973, USA, 106 minutes. In English without subtitles.
SPECIAL KILLERS (LA RAGAZZA DI VIA CONDOTTI) @ 16:30
Presented by Psiegocinema
While investigating his girlfriend’s murder, a private detective finds himself drawn to a beautiful stripper and gets sucked into a web of love and deception. Equal parts giallo, romance and mafia thriller, this highly entertaining Italian genre flick boasts great interiors, stylish costumes and a knockout ending. Not available on DVD. Very rare screening!
Directed by German Lorente, 1973, Italy/Spain/France, 97 minutes. In English with Dutch subtitles.
PINK FLOYD: LIVE AT POMPEII @ 18:30
Presented by Jeffrey Babcock
Considered to be one of the very best rock films in the history of cinema, this is Pink Floyd performing live in their prime. In this beautifully psychedelic flick they don't play for an audience, but instead nestled in the ruins of a 2000 year old Roman amphitheater in Pompeii. Although attributed to French director Adrian Maben, it is better understood as a collaboration between him and Pink Floyd, featuring wild Kenneth Anger-esque montage sequences intercut with images of the band experimenting with melodies from their "Meddle" album, along with early versions of “Careful With That Axe, Eugene” and "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun.”
Directed by Adrian Maben, 1972, Belgium/West Germany/France, 62 minutes. In English with Dutch subtitles.
SID AND NANCY @ 20:00
Presented by Hado Steen
Alex Cox’s cult classic tells the tragic tale of the brief, volatile romance between Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious (a young and electric Gary Oldman) and his girlfriend Nancy Spungen (Chloe Webb). This is neither a conventional biopic, nor a documentary about the Sex Pistols, but an anarchic, funny and frightening portrait of mutual self-destruction. Featuring a great soundtrack, including Joe Strummer, The Pogues, and Sid’s infamous rendition of “My Way.”
Directed by Alex Cox, 1986, UK, 112 minutes. In English with Dutch subtitles.
MY BLOODY VALENTINE @ 22:00
Presented by Cinema of the Dam’d
A small Canadian mining town refuses to celebrate Valentine’s Day, because of a series of grisly murders many years ago. When a group of teenagers decide to tempt fate and throw a Valentine’s Day party, they’re suddenly stalked by a masked killer. Largely shot in a creepy coal mine 900 feet below ground, this 80s slasher classic has developed a loving cult following for its shocking horror and spooky setting. The perfect film to put an end to Valentine’s Day.
Directed by George Mihalka, 1981, Canada, 90 minutes. In English without subtitles.
