Carmen Gomes werd geboren onder de rook van de Hoogovens en groeide op in Amsterdam, de stad die onmiskenbaar van invloed geweest op haar muzikale ontwikkeling. Carmen rondde haar zangopleiding in 1994 af aan het Sweelinck Conservatorium.
Carmen Gomes won het Nederlands Jazz Vocalisten Concours en de “Singer of the Year Award” bij het Concours van het Breda Jazz Festival. Ze maakte opnames met het Metropole Orkest, speelde op het North Sea Jazz Festival, het Yokohama jazz festival in Japan, Copenhagen Jazzfestival en trad o.a. op met Louis van Dijk en Eric Vloeimans, Rob de Nijs, Angela Groothuizen en het Goede Doel. Carmen Gomes Inc. heeft diverse theater tournees gemaakt en 12 albums uitgebracht. Het Parool schreef over haar:
"Als ze blues zingt, klinkt ze alsof ze zo van het katoenveld is afgeplukt. In een gospelachtig nummer moet de luisteraar zich inhouden om niet halleluja te roepen.”
Dit concert wordt georganiseerd door de vrijwilligers van de Stichting Vrienden van Wester-Amstel, in nauwe samenwerking met de Beroepsvereniging Improviserende Musici (BIM). Die viert haar 50-jarig jubileum. Samen organiseren zij een serie hoogwaardige en tegelijkertijd intieme concerten in de parkzaal van Wester-Amstel. Kaarten kosten 15 euro per stuk, donateurs/vrienden van Wester-Amstel betalen 12.50. Reserveringen uitsluitend via www.billetto.nl. Er is op het terrein voldoende gratis parkeergelegenheid.

Wester-Amstel is een buitenplaats uit 1662 en biedt een oase van rust, midden in de stad, midden op het platteland. Op een steenworp afstand van het drukke Amsterdamse stadsleven geniet u van het buitenleven op één van de mooiste plekjes van het groene Amstelland.
